App Icon Branding Guidelines

Your white-label app needs custom icon files that meet Apple's and Google's technical requirements. This guide covers the exact specifications and design best practices for both platforms.

Required files

PlatformSpecification
iOS1024 Γ— 1024 px, PNG format, no transparency
Android512 Γ— 512 px, PNG format (32-bit, sRGB), max file size 1 MB

Submit both files to HqO for implementation.

iOS best practices

  • Provide a single 1024 Γ— 1024 px PNG with no transparency β€” Apple automatically generates all smaller sizes.
  • Do not add rounded corners, shadows, or gloss β€” Apple applies these automatically.
  • Favor simplicity: bold designs with a distinct focal element read best at small sizes.
  • Use a solid, opaque background. Avoid photos, gradients, or cluttered designs.
  • Include text only when it's essential to your branding β€” small text becomes illegible when the icon is scaled down.

Android best practices

  • Provide a 512 Γ— 512 px PNG in 32-bit sRGB color, no larger than 1 MB.
  • Do not add rounded corners or shadows β€” Google Play applies these automatically.
  • Submit a complete square image; Google Play masks it with approximately a 20% corner radius.
  • Design within grid keylines to keep your artwork centered.
  • Emphasize bold, minimal designs with a clear focal point rather than detailed or cluttered compositions.
